Juan Ponce de Le\u00f3n se encontraba en la proa, con la mirada fija en el horizonte, sintiendo el pulso de la corriente del Golfo bajo los cascos. Era el a\u00f1o 1513 y se encontraban lejos de casa, navegando por aguas que ning\u00fan marinero europeo hab\u00eda cartografiado por completo. Juan de la Cosa estudi\u00f3 las estrellas, trazando posiciones y guiando a la flota a trav\u00e9s de canales llenos de arrecifes. Pedro Ruiz registr\u00f3 meticulosamente cada profundidad y corriente, mientras que Diego de Ledesma guiaba las embarcaciones m\u00e1s peque\u00f1as, navegando con cuidado por los estrechos pasajes.
